My Winter Skin Saver!

Hi all! Wow, it's been a long, long time since I've written a blog post! I'm sure all of you that have gone through or are in college understand, though, that sometimes school work consumes your life. Also, this semester I've taken on undergraduate research in addition to my classes, so it's getting even crazier! However, today classes are cancelled due to snow, and I really wanted to seize this opportunity to give a review on a new product of mine.

I've done quite a few skincare posts in the past it seems like, and I've said before that my skin is oily. Despite that, this winter it has also been dehydrated. The kind of dehydrated where as soon as I got done washing my face I had to immediately put on toner/moisturizer, or else my skin started to feel and look like a desert. I don't think anyone likes that feeling, and I knew it wasn't healthy for my skin. Something had to be done!

I got a sample of this Michael Todd True Organics Hydration Boost Serum ($37.00 for 1 fl oz) with my order I placed for Christmas, and as within two days of using it I knew I had to have the full size! It's not a "band-aid" product that makes your skin feel better temporarily but doesn't actually change your skin. It penetrates deep down to the root of your dryness, and truly changes your skin. I use it in the morning (just because I have a different Michael Todd serum I like using at night) and it makes my skin more glowy but LESS oily, makes my foundation go on smoother, and believe it or not, it's gotten rid of some fine lines I had on my forehead that were a result of dehydration. The standout ingredients in this are blue green algae and hyaluronic acid, which "help strengthen the skin's moisture barrier" and "work to retain moisture." The only con is that, to me, it smells like pickles. Yes, pickles. But hey, I'll deal with it for these amazing results.

I really recommend this for those of you with dry skin, or just need some extra TLC this winter! If you guys have a favorite serum or product that helps with hydration, let me know in the comments below! Thanks so much for reading.

Review: Benefit They're Real Mascara

*This mascara has relatively short plastic bristles, though not quite as short as Covergirl's Lash Blast. Note the inconspicuous "ball" at the end of the wand (if you want to even call it that- there's not that much there)*

*My naked eyes*

*My eyes with one coat of They're Real on the top and bottom lashes (and all my other makeup on too)*

This is a sample sized mascara I've had since early July when I received my VIB birthday gift from Sephora. Of course I was excited to try it out because of the immense hype it received when it was first released, and I would never have spent the money to purchase it out-right. So, here is what I think of it at this point!

  • The barely-there "ball" at the end doesn't look like much, but it really does help grab the tiny lashes most other wands won't grab.
  • The wand isn't too big. It's the perfect size actually, to allow me to apply mascara on top of my lashes as well as underneath. For comparison, I find Maybelline's The Rocket wand to be way too large, and Revlon's Grow Luscious borders on too big.
  • The formula is very black!
  • It's more dramatic than a few of my favorite mascaras.
  • It's kinda heavy- it weighs my lashes down, therefore not holding a curl.
  • It smudges a bit under my eyes within 15-30 minutes. It's not the worst for smudging, but it's not the best. Maybelline One-by-One is the only mascara I've ever tried that didn't smudge at all on me, and L'Oreal's Voluminous Carbon Black was the worst!
  • Although I like that it's a little more dramatic, it can get a little clumpy fast. This is not the kind of mascara I find I can layer with, and the ball at the end is the worst for holding on to excess product.
Therefore, to me, this mascara is average. I'm super thrilled that I was able to try it without buying it full size, because I don't think it's worth it at all. At this point, my favorite mascara is still Maybelline One-by-One, and Revlon's Grow Luscious is creeping into my heart, haha! If you enjoy They're Real, please leave your thoughts below! I'd love to hear from you. As always, thank you for reading. :)

Second Day of Class FOTD & OOTD

Hi guys! So, I'm back at college! This is a "Second Day of Class" post because I was too stressed on the first day of class to spend time on taking photos. Unfortunately I have NO lunch break on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays until 4:25 pm! :(

Anyway, I wanted to show you the outfit I wore today, as well as the makeup look. I don't have a distinct clothing style, so I may wear something that looks completely different tomorrow, but I pretty much wear the same sorts of makeup looks daily. I know it may not be a good school makeup look for some people, but it works for me!

*Sorry for the ridiculous pose! My mirror isn't hanging on the door, so it's too low for me to stand normally.*

Top is from Forever21, capris from American Eagle, flip flops are Rainbows, and purse is from Charming Charlie's.

*On my face: Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Foundation, both Tarte concealers, Tarte amazonian Clay powder & blush in Dollface, NYX Matte Bronzer in light, LORAC Perfectly-Lit powder in Luminous, Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Brunette/Dark Brown & Clear Brow Gel, MAC Lipstick in Angel topped with a random pink gloss.*

*On my eyes: UDPP in Eden. From Naked palette: Buck in crease, Sidecar on lid, Gunmetal in crease, Creep in outer corner, Virgin in inner corner. From Naked Basics palette: Naked 2 under lower lashes, W.O.S. on brow bone. UD Smoke eyeliner on upper lash line, Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara.*

I hope you enjoyed! I think tomorrow I'm going to do a little less on the eyes and wear a bold lip. What kind of looks do you guys wear to college (if you're in it)? Please leave any comments, questions, or suggestions below, and I hope you have a good day! As always, thanks for reading.

My Travel Makeup & Brush Essentials

Earlier this week my mom and I went on a two day trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and had a lot of fun! Of course I didn't want to bring a lot of beauty products for just a two day trip, so I thought I'd like to show you the "essential" items that I brought with me:

  • Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer- My favorite primer that I've been using for a while now. It's so inexpensive, I really recommend trying it! For my oily skin, primer is a must no matter where I am.
  • bareMinerals Ready Foundation in Fairly Medium- I find powder foundation easier to apply quickly than liquid, so I chose this. My priority when I'm on the go is to make sure my skin looks good- anything else is "extra."
  • Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer- My concealer for under my eyes- it works miracles! I don't need any extra brighteners and correctors to pair with this, and it really doesn't crease.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer- I use this stick concealer on spots on my face. Super full coverage, and the stick formula is really convenient.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Setting Powder- Just like primer, setting powder is essential for my oily skin. This one really holds my foundation on all day even when I don't have time to touch up on a busy day. If you wanted to be REALLY travel-friendly, however, you could choose a pressed powder with an applicator included.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed- This is a perfect "all flattering" blush- it's so neutral that it goes with every eye and lip combo, plus its tan tone makes it double as a bronzer. That eliminates the need for two separate cheek products.
  • Anastasia Brow Powder Duo & Clear Brow Gel- A winning combo for eyebrows! I basically look like I have no eyebrows unless I fill them in, and the powder is great for fixing that. Applying the gel after I fill in with powder holds unruly hairs in place all day, with no crunchy feeling or white clumps.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliners (any shade!!!)- I brought three shades of these because you can have several eyeliners without taking up much space. I brought a neutral grey (Smoke) and two colors (Mainline and Empire) to have a bit of variety. These take up much less space than an eyeshadow palette, which you can see I didn't bring at all.
  • E.L.F. Eyelash Curlers and a mini Benefit They're Real Mascara- The Sephora birthday gift this year comes in handy for travel! However, even if I didn't have any mini mascaras, I'd still bring a full size because I find mascara to be so important in making a difference in my appearance.
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Coral Reef and Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Naked- I find lip glosses easier than lipsticks to apply and maintain throughout the day, so I brought a bright (Coral Reef) and a neutral (Naked).

I also brought the minimal amount of brushes to use with the makeup I brought: an eyebrow brush and angled brush to apply my brow powder, my Sigma P82 to blend my concealer, my Real Techniques Buffing Brush to apply my foundation, my Sigma F30 to apply my setting powder and MAC 168 for my blush.

I feel that I managed to bring the perfect amount of things! Not too much, not too little. Do you guys think this is still too much, or do you normally bring more than I do? Please leave any comments, questions, or suggestions below, and thank you so much for reading! :)

Exciting Review: Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks!

Hi guys! So, I am beyond excited about this- I finally got my hands on two of the Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks ($22.00)! I've been wanting these since before they came out! I went to my local mall the other day and bought Jilted and Bang, but of course I still want, like, 5 more...

*Bang on left, Jilted on right*

*Lip swatch of Bang. It's much brighter in person, I was having horrible lighting issues this day.*

*Lip swatch of Jilted.*

As you can see, Bang is a BRIGHT red-orange, sort of like MAC's Morange or OCC's Beta. Jilted is a deep fuschia with a blue sheen to it- not chunky shimmer that you can feel on the lips, just a sheen. The color almost reminds me of MAC's Girl About Town, although Jilted has the stronger blue sheen.

I don't even know where to begin with telling you about these amazing lipsticks! They have no scent, are neither moisturizing nor drying, and feel very thin and comfortable on the lips. And these things are pigmented! Bang is completely opaque with one light swipe, while Jilted takes a tiny bit more swiping but is nevertheless ultra opaque. This does make them tricky to apply straight out of the tube without using a lip liner, because it can be easy to accidentally create uneven outer edges. However, this also makes them last like an OCC Lip Tar- if you've ever tried one, you know that Lip Tars last ALL DAY without a reapplication. These are the same way- I wore Jilted for seven hours, and slight wear in the inner part of my lips started showing after 5 hours, but it never completely wore away. It still looked good, and on a normal day I probably wouldn't reapply. I had no issues with feathering or bleeding because once they simply stick to where they are applied. I can't even explain how happy I am that I have these!

I think next I'll buy Venom, with the matching lip liner. And then maybe Catfight. ;) Have you guys tried any of these lipsticks? Let me know your favorites below! Feel free to leave any other comments, questions or suggestions below as well, and thank you for reading! Hope you enjoyed!
